My name is Tracy Schaller. My husband Larry and our kids, Lauren, Grace, Mikey, Emme, Margaux, and Charlotte have been members of St. Clare for 10 years. When Father asked me to tell my Resurrection Story I realized that my story is not a single moment or event but a work in progress. Through the years, I have attended mass, I have guided our kids through their sacraments, and I have volunteered here and there. But I always thought I should do more. Every couple of years I would get inspired and attend a retreat and do some extra spiritual reading, only to fall back into my lazy Catholic ways. That brief spark was quickly extinguished by the busyness of everyday life, kids, school, homework, sports. My faith took a backseat to all of these activities. There was always a reason not to go to that Bible study or attend daily mass.
Then came Father Andrew, who pulled my husband Larry aside after mass and placed in his hand an invitation to Alpha. He asked us to pray about it. We didn’t really understand what Alpha was. We did understand that it was every Thursday evening for 10 weeks. We couldn’t possibly commit to every Thursday for 10 weeks. We are way too busy. But you can’t say no to Father Andrew which, by the way, is why I’m up here today. So, we did the Alpha program. I met and became friends with people I had seen in church for 10 years and never known. It brought me closer to our St. Clare community and encouraged me to share my faith in a way I never had before. At the end of the course we realized we just happened to be free for the next 10 weeks. And so we did it again. Turns out we were not as busy as we thought on Thursday evenings.
I realized it is so important to make time for things like this. I am so grateful that Father handed that invitation to Larry. It was exactly what I needed to take that step. My faith has been energized. I am excited to go forward and see what Father Andrew has in store for us next. I’m excited because I used to see Jesus on Sunday mornings. Now I see him every day.
