I’ll start by saying how very thankful I am to have been part of the mission trip to Poland.
Two memories seem to play over in my mind. The first is of an elderly woman I saw while cleaning one of the holding rooms at Tesco. Many cots are lined up in rooms all over the Tesco center. Here was a small woman, fully dressed…shoes and coat, with her cane next to her side. I stood there for a moment and said to one of the other volunteers “what should we do”? We decided to quietly clean around her. She never moved the whole time we worked in that room. I can’t imagine what she had already gone through to get to this place.
Another memory is that of a sweet dark-haired little girl that I got the chance to play with, while helping at a Motel Gorski. Motel Gorski housed refugees and took us in while we volunteered there. This little girl was full of smiles. She seemed oblivious to what had brought her to this place. We could not understand each other but managed through gestures a little help from Google translate. I never got the hang of it though. The children helped me use my phone to translate. It was quite a learning experience.
Traveling to Poland was a trip of a lifetime for me. The people of Poland are so welcoming and kind. We were treated very well wherever we stayed.
Meeting volunteers from around the world with one thought in mind “how can I help these poor war-torn people”.
I’m thankful for all those who prayed for our mission’s success.
