Lenten Lunch Program
St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen – Serving Others and Feeding the Hungry
St. Clare Parish and the Christian Service Commission continue its proud tradition of cooking, delivering, preparing and servicing hot meals on Mondays during Lent. From lasagna to meat loaf and bananas to oranges we gather and collect large quantities of food each week and bring it to St. Leo’s and then serve the guests.
There are many ways to help and we count on so many of our loyal parishioners to make this project a success. Please look for the sign up boards in the church a few weeks before Lent. It is a wonderful way to get involved in the parish and provide much needed assistance to the community around us. Thank You to all the St. Clare families for all your contributions!
Warm Hands, Warm Hearts
We continue the tradition of providing support to area warming centers by providing hand warmers and monetary donations to assist the needy during the winter months. St. Al’s in downtown Detroit is most grateful for the hand warmers which they provide to their guests as part of an overall package of support as they encourage, counsel and guide guests on the streets each day. You will find them on the streets and in the alleys of Detroit on bikes pulling a Canticle Café cart distributing sandwiches, coffee, gloves and hand warmers. Thanks to the generosity of St. Clare parish we are able to support this effort each year from our Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Collection in late January.
Giving Tree Project
The Giving Tree Project provides gifts and gift cards for area senior centers, some of the most needy in our immediate area and Archdiocesan AIDS project. Each weekend after Thanksgiving the Giving Trees go out around the doors of St. Clare with gift tags providing suggestions on items to buy. Each year we continue to be amazed at how generous everyone is in assisting with this project. Thank you St. Clare families for caring and helping to provide your brothers and sisters in Christ.
