One of the women our SVdP conference has assisted will soon be bicycling to her job—thanks to a generous parishioner who answered our recent request for a ladies bike. In spite of good intentions to get active, after a year or two, this bicycle was still in its shipping box in the donor’s garage, so she decided to offer it to our neighbor-in-need. The staff at Bikes Blades and Boards put the bike together at a discounted charge and made all the appropriate adjustments to guarantee reliable transportation for the new owner, and our conference—through your financial support—purchased a good lock and basket.
For many of us, a bike is no big deal—there are several parked in our garages that we may or may not often use. But for this woman, a bicycle will make a huge difference in her quality of life. Although she knows how to drive, she has not been financially able to own a car for years. This limits her employment possibilities, shopping opportunities, and social activities to places she can reach on a bus—and no doubt you are aware that bus service in “The Motor City” is not always reliable. Yes, she relies on kindness of friends for rides, but now she can rely on herself! Thanks to all who helped!
