There is one last opportunity to bring your gently used clothing and household items to the SVdP Donation Pod located in the St. Clare parking lot. It is scheduled to be picked up during the day on Monday, Oct. 22. So please share the things that YOU no longer use but are still useful! You may drop off your donations anytime—just lift the door on the pod and leave your stuff. There is a book of receipts just inside, along with extra bags to take home for future donations!
There are regular calls on our SVdP Assistance line requesting help with obtaining some of the many things most of us take for granted. A recent caller was relocating from a domestic violence situation and starting over. She needed sheets, towels, plates and pots. Children grow so quickly; there are steady requests for clothing and particularly coats, sweatshirts and other practical outerwear. When these items are donated to to St. Vincent de Paul, they are sorted and distributed among the Thrift stores so that people can obtain them with a voucher provided by a Vincentian or purchase at a deep discount. And if one of our volunteers sees something in the pod that we know has been requested by one of our friends in need, we take it directly to them.
Next Saturday, October 27, SVdP is having a general information and training session and we invite anyone interested in our ministry to join us and learn how to get involved. We will meet in the social hall at 10:30 am and we have something for everyone who’d like to help us help others. For more information, email Barb at
[email protected] or leave a message on the SVdP Assistance Line at 313-647-5062.
