What a weekend for our St. Vincent de Paul Conference! We participated in the Kroger-Gleaners Bringing Hope to the Table project and were able to fill 24 grocery carts with donated non-perishable food and personal items. Our intrepid pantry coordinator Diane McCloskey deserves a HUGE round of applause for organizing the 29 volunteers who stepped forward to lend a hand in making this colossal endeavor a success! By Diane’s calculations, those 29 people gave 131 hours of service and handled at least 1,963 items.
13 of our volunteers were stationed at our assigned Kroger at Crocker Road/Metro Parkway in Harrison Township. They distributed shopping lists to incoming shoppers, made regular announcements on the store’s public address system encouraging participation, collected the donations at the store exit, transferred them to cars, and transported them back to St. Clare.
Our 16 volunteers at St. Clare provided 72 hours of service by unloading deliveries, taking them to the social hall, unpacking the grocery bags, sorting everything into category boxes, counting the items, and packing them for storage in the pantry. And then, it all was moved into the pantry. Whew!!
Thanks to our Volunteers! We could not have done it without you!
