Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is very grateful for the support of our parish community. We want to provide another brief update on Tameka and her family—as you may recall, they lost their home and everything in it when the Jason Manor Apartment Building burned to the ground on Ash Wednesday. Through the generosity of St. Clare parishioners, we were able to provide them with a refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, microwave, and new beds and bedding. We have also given Tameka the gift cards you donated so that she can replace clothing and other household items. Our conference provided debit cards so she can shop for additional items in the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores, and a nice supply of groceries to re-establish her kitchen pantry. We still have a “nest egg” from the cash donations you provided, and we will be checking back with them in a few weeks to find out what is still needed.
Please keep SVdP in mind as you do your spring cleaning. Our SVdP blue donation bin is in the parking lot next to the newspaper recycling station, and we would love for you to bring your gently used clothing, bedding, towels and footwear to be passed along to those in need or sold in our thrift stores to benefit St. Vincent de Paul programs. Large donations—including furniture and household items can be picked up at your home free of charge. You can make arrangements by calling 313-672-7837.
