The Christian Service Commission is excited to announce a fundraiser to support the reconstruction of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Haiti. The project is being sponsored by HART (Haiti Africa Relief Team). HART is a group of Catholic parishioners from Southeast Michigan and many friends who seek to serve Jesus by serving others - specifically in Haiti and Africa. The project is being done in multiple phases. Phase 1 and phase 2 are complete. The foundation was phase 2. They are now raising funds for the bricks to erect the walls of the church (phase 3). Next weekend we plan to pass out "brick" packets to allow St. Clare parishioners to support this endeavor. Please join us during the month of May in supporting this project in Haiti.
Maria Rodriguez, our local contact with HART, shares these comments with us - Recently, H.A.R.T. reached out to St. Jude's community in More L'Hopital Haiti with a medical and humanitarian mission. Since the earthquake destroyed St. Jude's church over 4 years ago the parish has celebrated mass in a temporary structure of tin and 2X4's. H.A.R.T. has decided to help St. Jude's rebuild what the earthquake destroyed, beginning with their church.
We of HART feel that rebuilding the church will give the people of St. Jude not only a sacred, holy and physically sound place for worship, ceremony and mass but also HOPE and continued connection with Jesus through their gathering in community and the receiving of our gift. "man does not live on bread alone but by the Gospel of the Lord"
How wonderful it is to be part of giving the people of Morne
L'Hopital the opportunity to gather and hear the Gospel! The Hope they will receive from Jesus will sustain them. We of H.A.R.T. are blessed to be part of this project. As Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
As we buy bricks for St. Jude's Church we will use the Whittier Wall in the church to reflect our participation and the growing sides of the church walls. You will see the beautiful mural painted by Maria near the new church which reflects helping hands from across the world. Let's put our hands together and make a contribution to help St. Jude's get rebuilt.
