We hear that the founding fathers of the United States were not all Christians. We know that Thomas Jefferson was a deist. A deist believes that there is a God who created the world but once it was created, God went away and left the world “to run” like a clock.

As Catholic Christians, we know that not only did God create the universe, but that God is actively involved in the world. God intervened for his chosen people and suspended the laws of physics to save them from the Pharaoh. But more importantly God came down and became a human in order to redeem us from our sinful human condition. That is truly wondrous.
