September 17 is the big day!
The Detroit Mass Mob will be visiting St Clare at the 11 am Mass!
We have been planning all summer, and hope this is an event to remember for parishioners and visitors alike! Many of you are wondering “Why St. Clare? Aren’t Mass Mobs usually at historic churches in the center city?” As part of Archbishop Vigneron’s plan to “Unleash the Gospel”, the fall Mass Mobs are being held at parishes with active schools that support the city of Detroit and inner-ring suburbs. This fall, St. Clare of Montefalco, Gesu, and Christ the King are the chosen sites. All these parishes have schools that serve students from both the city and suburbs.
Another reason St. Clare was selected is because of the Funeral Mass celebrated last year for the indigent resident of the Cass Corridor. Tom Mann, co-founder and chair of the Detroit Mass Mob, indicated that event was one of the reasons St. Clare was selected!
There are sign-up sheets on the wall on the parking lot side of the Church. We will need help setting up, directing traffic, serving food, and cleaning up. Please sign up if you can. September 17 is a VERY busy day for St. Clare. In addition to the Mass Mob, it is the last day of the Used Book Sale and the day of the Parish Picnic. To that end, we are asking a few favors from our parishioners:
· If you go to the 9 am Mass, please do not hang around after Mass. We all love to socialize, but we need your parking space!
· If you want to stay (and hopefully help out), please park on the side streets near St. Clare. We are hoping the church lot and Verheyden’s lot will be used for our visitors. Park on the Detroit side of Mack Ave., Outer Drive, Whittier, Kensington, Three Mile, etc.
· If you see newcomers, please greet them warmly. Often, Mass Mob attendees arrive early for the Mass so they will be checking out our Church and grounds.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or want to volunteer, please contact Shannon Scanlon at
