As we continue to adapt to the evolving situation, I want to let you know that I am still here, thinking about you, praying for you all, and how we as a Pastoral Team can best support our parish community at this time.
I hope you are doing well as we collectively attempt to understand and reverse the rise of the COVID-19 Virus that is sweeping across the world. Our government and Church leaders are imposing many restrictions to minimize as much as possible the spread of the virus.
In an unprecedented move the Archdiocese of Detroit, has suspended the celebration of public Masses until April 6th. I continue to say the daily Mass and remember the intention for the day in the Rectory Chapel. Although we cannot celebrate the Mass as a parish community, beginning Saturday March 21st. I will livestream the weekend Masses on our Facebook Page from the Rectory Chapel. Be sure to be on time, as there will be no music and no homily, so if you blink you will miss most of it! Even though I am required to celebrate alone I have an idea… I was thinking if you send me a photo via email of you/your family I will print these and place them on the wall of the chapel so you will be with me in “spirit” at least.
The office will be closed until April 6. Staff will be working remotely as much as possible. Please know that your phone calls will be answered.
If you need anything, please email us or call office numbers as messages will be answered in a timely fashion. As necessary, essential appointments will be scheduled. We will do our best to continue to meet your needs.
Scheduled Baptisms and Weddings will take place however no more than 10 people may be in attendance. The same rule will apply to funeral services that arise during this crisis. As difficult as these restrictions may be, they have been put in place for the well-being of all. These numbers may change as events evolve.
At this time please keep the families of Gerry Peplowski and Myrna Wolfslayer in your prayers who passed away this week (not related to the virus). Funeral services will be private.
Daily, we offer live prayer via Facebook at 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 8:30pm. If you are unable to participate at the exact time, they will remain on the page for viewing throughout the remainder of the day.
I would encourage you to take advantage of Formed.org and the programs they have. Remember you just go to formed.org and register under our parish. No code is necessary. Email Sr. Kathy if you have any difficulty:

There are plenty of movies for a family movie night, many items for kids, and plenty for adults. During Lent I suggest the “Forgiven” Series for Adults. “Let’s Learn about Lent.” for the children. For youth there is an “Anima” series. These are just for starters. Oh, and there is a section “Extraordinary Stories for Children” that are 11 different stories that will engage children and adults in the Life of Blessed Solanus Casey. He is “our own saint.” So why not look him up through this program on formed.
As we adjust to the reality of not being together for the celebration of Mass daily, I have listed some options available to participate in another format.

As we restrict our interaction with others, we realize how important being able to be touch with each other is. In the upcoming days, our office staff will be calling each household in our directory to check on how you are managing during this unprecedented time. We will also use this time to update our records so we can most effectively keep you informed of happenings in the parish.
One of the challenges we face is “keeping the lights on here.” By this I mean that with the suspension of Mass, the offertory collection is not being taken up, however we still need to pay staff, maintain the buildings and continue our outreach ministries. We have adjusted as much as possible to conserve funds, by lowering the heat, keeping the lights off etc. We ask that, to the best of your ability, you continue to make your weekly offertory donations, either by mailing them to the parish at St. Clare of Montefalco, 1401 Whittier Rd., Grosse Pointe Park, or via the WeShare site found by going to our website www.stclarem.org and following the prompts to sign up for electronic giving. Please click the “Donate” button on the front page. You will be taken to the “WeShare” online giving site.
If you do not have an online account, the steps are easy to follow to set one up. If you need assistance, please call the business office at 313-647-5022 or the WeShare help line 1-800-950-9952 ext. 2007.
As we work to adjust to this new normal, I wish you and your families’ peace, good health and trust in the Lord that this too shall pass. Be assured of my continued prayer.
