This weekend we celebrate the last of the Solemnity Sundays, the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – Corpus Christi. It is one of the most revered days in our Catholic calendar, an expression of our faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. At 11 am Mass we will take the Blessed Sacrament in procession around the church as a sign that we want to carry the liturgy out of the church and into the homes, places of work and streets of our neighborhoods. We come together in all our diversity and rejoice in our unity, ever grateful for this amazing gift of the Lord.
As we celebrate this wonderful gift of the Body and Blood, we reflect on our encounter with the Risen Lord that we experience in our church. What is our awareness of the presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle as we enter the church? During the Consecration, are we attentive to the words when the miracle of the Eucharist is happening? As we approach the Altar to receive Communion do we check our posture and lift our hands and face to receive his Body and Blood reverently, intentionally seeking to understand the journey to and from the Lord’s table? Be Holy. Be Catholic.
Here is a prayer we could use today
Come, Lord, and visit us.
We welcome you into our hearts,
our families, and our city.
We thank you because you have prepared for us the food of life
and a place in your Kingdom.
Make us active in preparing your way, joyous in bringing you, who are the Way, to others, and thus to bring fraternity, justice and peace to our streets.
Amen.
