July 17, 1934 – June 27, 2015
Janet Pellerito was an extraordinary force of life. Everything she did was done with passion & no abandon—even in the face of adversity through her chronic health challenges. Her life reflected grace and beauty while always instilling optimism within those around her.
Janet spent her days as an exceptional wife and a completely dedicated Mother to her five children. She constantly looked to care for those around her especially her own parents, as well as her dear Auntie Lil & Uncle Jack where Janet remained a steadfast and nurturing daughter.
Janet had several passions, but none more important than her role as a dotting grandmother, loyal friend, and child of God. However, she is one of the all-time original “pickers” and used “junking” and “collecting” as a therapeutic elixir in order to boost to her struggling arthritic body.
Although Janet was a longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Park, she spent her latter years as a GP Farms resident, where she died June 27, 2015 with her family by her side.
She was a graduate of The University of Detroit Dental School and worked within the Detroit and Grosse Pointe Public Schools as a dental hygienist running the fluoride programs. She and her husband, Joe met on the beach in Saugatuck, Michigan, were married in Detroit, and raised five children.
Janet was a longstanding member of Saint Clare Catholic Church, but was also actively involved in Bible studies with the GP Methodist ladies, as well as with her Dutch Reform ladies. She cherished Christmas time and her annual family Christmas party almost as much as she loved setting up her own “Santa’s Workshop.”
Janet enjoyed tea parties with her grandchildren, volunteered at various annual church rummage sales and most importantly was captivated by the flora and birds in her enchanted garden.
Mrs. Pellerito is survived by her five children, Lisa Bibbler (John), Paul Pellerito, Joseph Pellerito Jr. (Laura), Christopher Pellerito (Julie), and Lynn Pellerito (Andy Prakken), as well as her grandchildren, Jennifer (Bibbler) Abendano (Jonny), JJ Bibbler, James Bibbler, Sara (Pellerito) Langford (Ryan), Cobi Pellerito, Rachel Pellerito, Lily Pellerito, Jack Pellerito, Christopher Pellerito, Joseph Pellerito III, Mara Pellerito, Ivy Pellerito, Kaitlin & Adriana Prakken and many nieces and nephews.
Her great grandson, Emmet Langford, preceded Janet in death, in addition to her mother and father--Irene and Fred Scadding, plus Jack and Lil Burrows and her in-laws, Paul and Jenny Pellerito.
