Confirmation will be conferred on the students on Sunday, April 28, 2019
at the 11:00 Mass.
It is now time to think about the more immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation that your child will receive in April.
- On Wednesday, December 5, 2018 students will travel to the Subiaco Retreat Center for their Confirmation retreat. A permission slip will be needed, and the cost of the retreat is $55. Our religious education office will send a notice to the school where the students attend asking that they be excused on that day.
- On Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the 9:00 Mass your child will be officially enrolled in the program for Confirmation. This will be followed by a parent/student meeting in the social hall. For this Rite of Acceptance your child will need his/her Baptismal candle. (or you may purchase one before this date at the religious education office for $3.)
February 4th at 6:30 in the social hall will be a meeting for student/parent/Confirmation sponsor.
Practice for Confirmation is Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 12:00 for student and sponsor. If the sponsor is not available, then a parent must be in attendance.
Requirements for Confirmation:
- Attend class regularly. May not miss more than 3 without make up work.
- Participate in a Confirmation retreat.
- Attend the Rite and parent/student meetings.
- Attendance at Mass each weekend. Student must bring a bulletin with his/her name at the top along with the time of the Mass and the celebrant.
- By January 7th a copy of the child’s Baptismal record must be in the religious education office.
- Choose a sponsor. To be a sponsor for Confirmation, he/she must be a confirmed practicing Catholic, and at least 16 years of age. The sponsor must be certified by the pastor of the Catholic church he/she attends. Please have the sponsor send his certification by February 17/18.
- The Candidate needs to choose a saint to imitate for his/her Confirmation name and then write and type a double-spaced sheet or two about the life of the saint. (Candidate may choose his/her Baptismal name.) This is also due February 17/18.
- 15 service hours for this year, added to 15 hours from last year, so a total of 30 service hours should be recorded and reported on. 7 hours should be completed before Christmas. There is a specific service sheet. Candidate needs to reflect and write about its impact on him/her. Due March 17/18.
- A letter needs to be sent to the pastor asking to be Confirmed in the Catholic Church. This letter should include the qualities of the sponsor and saint that inspired the candidate, the type of service hours that were practiced, and why he/she needs the help of the Holy Spirit in the years ahead. Due February 17/18.
- Participate in one “out of the ordinary” religious experience: Stations of the Cross. A Holy Week Service. Adoration. Light up for Christ. Thursday faith formation. Due April 22.
Please place these dates on your calendar and place this paper in a prominent space.
