Boots & Coats Collection: November 3-4, 2012 Church
Support the Christian Service boot and coat drive by checking with family and friends for gently used or new boots and coats. This drive supports the local Capuchin Warming Center. We are also collecting for children to support an area elementary school. Please separate accordingly. Help support this effort by checking your closets at home and calling family and friends and then bring your donations to any mass the weekend of Nov. 3-4. See the bulletin for details.
Giving Tree Set Up: November 24, 2012 Church
The Giving Tree project places miniature Christmas trees next to the church exits with paper ornaments that have a suggestion for a gift donation to an area senior center or nursing home. We look for a disciple group to help complete the gift tags and then decorate and place the trees by the exits. Each tag is labeled with a gift suggestion and a prayer. The whole process takes no more than a couple of hours. The contact person is JoAnn Morandini. Her phone is 313-331-2176.
Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Collection January 19-20, 2012 Church
St. Clare Parish donates hand warmers and money to St. Al’s and their efforts to provide warmth, love and support to the downtown homeless population. I recently dropped off 50 boxes of hand warmers for distribution on the streets by St. Al’s staff along with coffee, food and support. We need help by one or two disciple groups at each mass on January 19 and 20 to collect donations at the doors as parishioners exit after mass.
You are asked to arrive ten minutes before mass to get your door assignments and collection cans as well as Warm Hands sign. The collection just takes ten minutes as people file out after mass. St. Clare parishioners have been very supportive of this program. The funds collected pay for the hand warmers already delivered and provide additional resources for St. Al’s and other area warming centers.

St. Leo’s Appreciation Dinner January 27, 2013 Social Hall
The Christian Service commission hosts a dinner to thank all the supporters of the St. Leo Lunch project. It is a simple lasagna and pasta affair and usually has a brief talk about the good works of St. Leo’s soup kitchen. We would like the help of one or two disciple groups to help with set up, welcome guests and bus and clean up after dinner. It is a nice way to learn more about the program and witness all the wonderful St. Clare families that make this program a success each year. Contact Mike McDevitt 313-647-5025.
St. Leo’s Lunch Project February 17 – March 24, 2013 Sunday
Food Donations 5:30 – 6:30 Social Hall
Support the St. Leo’s Lunch Project by signing up to prepare and deliver meals for the project during one or more of its six weeks of operation. Food donations are collected on the Sunday evening before the Monday lunch. It would be a nice project to for a disciple group to make brownies, cookies, meatloaf or a chicken dish on a Sunday afternoon and then deliver it to the church in the evening. All the instructions and menus are placed on the Whittier church wall a few weeks before the program begins.
St Clare has always responded wonderfully to this effort to support the soup kitchen at St. Leo’s. Please consider joining this effort with your disciples by sharing with them the gift of giving and sharing their time with others.
Simple Supper Helpers February 13 – March 20, 2013 Wednesday
Set Tables/Bus Tables 5:15 – 7:00 PM Social Hall
Each Wednesday during Lent a different St. Clare commission hosts the Simple Supper. We are looking for
two ambitious Confirmation candidates to assist with set up, busing tables and clean up at each Wednesday Simple Supper. Students will also assist individuals with carrying their bowls of soup and drinks back to their tables.
Contact Mike McDevitt if you are interested. 313-647-5025.
