What Counts for Christian Service Hours?
~Volunteering at any non-profit or Catholic service agency designed to support people in need (like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, retirement homes, hospitals, goodwill stores, etc.)
~Volunteering for an organization that benefits the community at large (like a school, library, after school program, WorkCamp, etc.)
~Volunteering at St. Clare of Montefalco parish Christian service events (e.g. the K of C vocation dinner, Simple Suppers at Lent, the parish Giving Tree, St. Clare School Christian service projects etc.)
~If you are unsure about whether a particular volunteer opportunity is appropriate, contact Michelle Brock, Director of Religious Education.
What Does NOT Count?
~Doing chores at home—you should be doing that anyway to contribute to the needs of your family!
~Babysitting (unless you are babysitting at a community agency as outlined above.)
~Volunteering for a commercial entity that is making a profit from the work being done (like a cleaning company, construction company, food preparation company, etc.)
~Once again, if you are unsure whether a particular volunteer opportunity is appropriate, contact the Director of Religious Education.
Why do Christian service?
“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?” And, the King will say to them in reply, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 37-40
