What is a pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a journey undertaken by a pilgrim in order to become closer to God through prayer, sacrifice, and reflection. In the history of the Church, pilgrimage sites have grown from locations connected with the birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus to locations associated with the Apostles, saints, Marian apparitions and – during this Jubilee Year of Mercy – the Holy Doors of Mercy in each diocese throughout the world. Going on a pilgrimage – to Rome, the Holy Land, Poland or to and through the Holy Door of Mercy at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament involves sacrifice. This sacrifice should be embraced with prayer and with joy. It is through such sacrifice that we become more closely united with fellow pilgrims, the faithful throughout the world, souls in purgatory, and, ultimately, Jesus Christ in heaven. I would like to invite you to join us for the second pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Blessed Sacrament Basilica in Detroit on Tuesday, Aug, 30th, 2016. We will leave – by yellow bus – at 9.30am; go through the “stations” and Holy Door and pray and celebrate Mass. Limit to 44 pilgrims on the bus. The trip is free. You can also join us at the Cathedral. We hope to be there by 10 am. If you are interested – please call our office to register.
