What would happen to your family if the only source of income suddenly vanished? How would you cope if a medical crisis drained your bank account? Could you manage your life without a car? Faced with the challenges life presents, many of our neighbors in need seek help from St. Vincent de Paul. The SVdP conference at St. Clare is an active group of volunteers who grow their own faith by extending mercy to others, and we always welcome new members! (For more information, leave a message on our Assistance Line at 313-647-5062 or email us at

Our greatest need is for people willing to go on home visits. Those interested in working directly with the poor can be part of a team that visits our neighbors-in-need, delivering food, friendship and strategizing on ways to meet emergency and ongoing needs.
Our volunteers help facilitate the Michigan Energy Assistance Program by writing energy grants and helping move clients toward self-sufficiency. We also support SVdP’s Camp Ozanam by recruiting deserving children for a life-changing summer camp experience. We operate an emergency food pantry that is kept stocked with generous donations from parishioners as well as participation in the annual Gleaners/Kroger Food drive, which requires MANY volunteers!
Our next initiative is the Friends of the Poor Walk, scheduled for Saturday, September 30th at Belle Isle. We count on this event to provide money for our conference to use in its work throughout the year. An example of our expenses? $120- $160 can purchase a used appliance for a family without a stove or refrigerator. We can buy a new mattress and foundation to provide a child with a twin bed for $170, and we can purchase a full-sized bed for $200.
Please consider walking with us! Register as a walker at:
https://www.fopwalk.org/ Be sure to make St. Clare your beneficiary if you choose to raise funds (you are not obligated to raise funds to participate in the walk.) Join the team named St. Clare of Montefalco – Grosse Pointe Park.
Or, consider making a donation to support our conference for this event. Please go to the website
http://www.svdpusa.net/fop/ and choose “Donate” and then “Donate to a Walker.” Enter “St. Clare of Montefalco SVdP” in the search box and select St. Clare or any registered St. Clare walker to make a donation. You may also drop a check in the collection basket, made payable to St. Clare St. Vincent de Paul. Your gift of ANY amount will make a difference!
Thank you for helping us to help others!
