The school roof repair project was completed last week on the Charlevoix side of the building. We were fortunate to have good weather and glad there were no major surprises once the tile was removed. It is a methodical process of removing and saving tile while putting down ice shield and underlayment. We will plan to do portions of the roof every summer to keep on top of it. It is rather ominous due to its size and the cost of repairs. Once done correctly, however, it lasts a very long time.
Thank you to the Garden Club and School Staff who work hard to make sure the pots and beds have flowers and are well watered. We are very proud of our parish grounds and grateful to all who support their efforts. St. Clare is a beautiful space. Hats off to everyone who contributes to this effort to make our gardens shine and represent our love and concern for St. Clare Parish.
Finally, we were pleased to host another S.A.Y. Detroit project sponsored by the Mitch Albom foundation on Tuesday. Volunteers work on fixing up houses, building gardens and playgrounds in neighborhoods around Detroit. For the last three or more years, we have allowed the organization to use our parking lot and the Sweeney Center as a staging area for their improvement projects just across the street in Detroit. We are grateful for all they do and happy we can help in some small way to be a part of their neighborhood improvement projects.
