We have been notified by SVdP Detroit that March 31st will be the last day we can submit new energy assistance applications, so if you or someone you know might qualify for this grant—see the income table below—PLEASE leave a confidential message on our assistance line (313-647-5062) ASAP. The original grant was for 2.25 million dollars, but most of those funds have been distributed, and the rest will go quickly.
St. Clare will be “adopting” a family of four that lost their home in that terrible fire at the Jason Manor Apartment Complex the morning of March 5. Our family is a single mom, her 6 and 8 year old sons, and her boyfriend. They are currently living with her grandmother as they look for a new place to live. Once they settle on a new home and receive the aid provided by the funds currently being collected at the SVdP Central Office, our role in helping will become more clear. However, in the meantime, if you would like to contribute gift cards so this family can purchase clothing and personal items, please put your donation in an envelope marked “SVdP: Fire Assistance” and drop it in the collection basket at church or give to a member of our St. Clare SVdP Conference. The mom says she shops “at places where you can get a good deal” like Kmart, Meijer, Walmart, and Burlington Coat Factory. There will be an update and more information about this family next week.
