The record cold temperatures this winter have stressed our patience, our furnaces, and our energy bills. And the most vulnerable among us may even face an energy shut-off. SVdP Detroit has access to a 2.25 million grant by the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (EAP) for DTE and Consumers Energy customers who meet the criteria. (see additional info on parish website.) There has been such a demand for this aid that the St. Vincent de Paul Conferences in the East District—this includes St. Ambrose, St. Matthew, St. Paul, St. Philomena, Star of the Sea, St. Joan of Arc and St. Raymond will be joining forces to have “office hours” to process the applications.
Thanks to the St. Clare Parish Team, SVDP now has an office in the lower level of the parish offices near our food pantry. This office will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at least through the end of March. Vincentians from our parish and others will be meeting with our eligible neighbors to process these applications. People will be pre-screened on the telephone and directed to come to the St. Clare Parish Office at the Whittier door on Saturdays to process their paperwork. If you happen to be around our parish campus, please welcome our visitors and direct them to the entrance at 1401 Whittier for the Energy Assistance Program.
If you or someone you know would like more information on the EAP, please leave a confidential message on our SVDP assistance line at 313-647-5062.
