Slowly the residents who were burned out of the Jason Manor Apartments are finding new housing. The family our parish is “adopting” will be moving into their new home this week. Tameka and her sons, aged 6 and 8 and her boyfriend have been staying with relatives since the fire destroyed their apartment building and everything they owned back on March 5th. Tameka is sure that God woke her boyfriend that morning. He smelled the smoke, and yelled “Fire, Fire!” When they opened their bedroom doors, their living room was already in flames, and they had no option but to jump out the bedroom windows.
The gift cards we requested on behalf of the family last week will be used for clothing and personal items. And we will continue to collect gift cards on their behalf. But now that Tameka has located a house for them, they are in need of a refrigerator, gas stove, washer and dryer. If you have a gently used appliances to donate or money toward new ones, Tameka and her family will be most grateful. Please contact a member of our SVdP conference or email Barb at [email protected] if you can help. Monetary and gift card donations can be dropped off at the parish office or in the collection basket with a note referencing SVdP Fire Assistance.
