School is out and summer is upon us! I switch hats from Christian Service to Plant Operations to share with you four projects we will be taking on around the church. The first is resealing forty eight storm windows above the handicap ramp. Twelve that are cracked will also be replaced. The man-lift was secured for safe working conditions. This is being done to prevent water from entering the church during torrential rain storms.
Also, we look forward to replacing the handicap ramp with new cement and repairing the ramp wall. While we have patched it over the years we realized that it needs to be torn out and re-poured. The ramp is often how the caskets are brought into the church. It is important that it be safe when it is being used.
Next, we are excited that we will use our designated Changing Lives Together donations to replace the damaged boiler tubes. Our two primary boilers in the school basement provide the majority of heat for the church and the school. Each boiler contains 50 curved tubes that will be removed and then refitted with new tubes. Since day one five years ago when I started this job I have been plagued with leaking tubes issues. I look forward to a fresh start and am committed to proper chemical treatment and preventative maintenance. If you still have outstanding Changing Lives Together pledges, I encourage you to make your payments so we have access to all of our funds.
Finally, I plan to have the ceiling above the Holy Family Chapel repaired and painted over the summer. You can expect to see some scaffolding in that corner for a couple of weeks as they will need a safe place to work due to the height of the ceiling. The damage is from a tile roof leak that was repaired last year.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these projects. You may not be able to park or sit where you normally do for a short period. I look forward to completing these projects and moving on to the next. I wish you and your family a wonderful and safe summer.
