St. Clare Christian Service Commission is organizing a team activity at Detroit Abloom on Saturday June 10 from 9:30 until Noon to perform a clean up project in their gardens. We are looking for a few parishioners to join us on this community project. The address is 248 Manistique St., Detroit 48215. The location is just a couple of blocks from Alter and Jefferson. Bring your own work gloves and a water bottle. Tools will be provided.
Detroit Abloom is a model land-use demonstration project, based on using cut flower farming and the creation of native plant sanctuary gardens to re-purpose vacant blighted land. Several years ago, Tom and Nancy worked with volunteers to clean up vacant blighted lots in their Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood, when they thought of a different approach. Gradually the idea evolved that by using cut flower farming to transform vacant land, they could turn blight into exceptional beauty and make places of sanctuary for the benefit of the community.
Moreover, Detroit Abloom has evolved to become an outdoor wellness garden that works with health practitioners to offer holistic workshops, classes, and programs to help enhance the surrounding community’s health and beyond.
