Deacon Richard Shubik, 25 years
This weekend we congratulate Deacon Rich as he celebrates his two anniversaries. This is his second year at St. Clare, and also his silver jubilee of Diaconal Ordination (October 17, 1992). Thank you, Rich, for your presence with us and your ministry to the people of St. Clare.
Sr. Valerie Binder CSJ, 60 years
Sr. Val, entered the Congregation of St. Joseph of Nazareth from Guardian Angels Parish in Detroit. She has served in education, teaching young children, special needs students, adults and Title I participants. She currently teaches English as a second language and volunteers as a tutor at the Dominican Literacy Center and Freedom House in Detroit. Sister Valerie is part of the evening crew at St. Clare helping in the office during the evening hours. She also helped Fr. Tom in his English adventures. Thank you, Sister, for your ministry in our parish.
Sr. Mary Peter 60 years
Sr. Mary Peter Caito, OSM celebrates 60 years as a vowed Servant of Mary this 2017. Sister attended St. John Berchmans Grade School and Servite High School, entering the convent the summer after graduation. She has always been a primary teacher leading many young hearts to Jesus through her unique way of teaching religion with books and stories. Sr. Peter has taught in Omaha, Massena, Flint, and Detroit. She has been at St. Clare School for the last 10 years teaching religion to grades K,1,2,3, & 4 over the years. She also helps wherever needed— In the lunchroom, on the playground, as a tutor, substitute, and office assistant.
Sr. Mary Peter is quiet, well read, and aware of current world and church issues. She loves animals and has a reverence for all of God’s creation. But…if you find flowers missing from your garden you might want to check her pockets! Sr. Kathy can attest to her marvelous cooking and baking. Need a “pick-me-up?” Just ask Sr. Peter for one of her chocolate chip cookies.
Congratulations to our Sisters and our Deacon. You all are great witnesses of the resurrection and of the love that sometimes doesn’t look very romantic, but a love that day in, and day out is serving and ministering to the body of Christ, the people, and students of St. Clare and beyond. Ad Multos Annos!
