As I listened to Fr. Andrew’s wonderful sermon today, I realized autumn will soon be here, and the morning Bible studies are starting up. If you are able, check one of these studies out. You will make new friends, come together with old friends, and hopefully gather a deeper understanding of your faith.
There is no cost for any group, unless you chose to purchase the book that accompanies the course. The book also gives you access to the videos line. But you are always welcome to check us out, and you will not need a book.
The Monday and Wednesday groups will be covering The Romans, a new study from Ascension Press.
“ In Romans: The Gospel of Salvation, Catholics will learn...
The Catholic teaching on salvation
How to explain salvation to non-Christians
What is required for salvation—faith or works
What Paul really means by “works” not leading to salvation
How Christ’s death changed our relationship with God
The meaning of the difficult passages in Romans
How we can enter more deeply into Christ
Dr. Swafford and Cavins explain that salvation is not merely the removal of a guilty verdict. Salvation is about entering into Christ’s life and death and sharing in his eternal sonship.”
This series is on order, and will ship in September, although no date is confirmed. I hope the Wednesday study will begin September 18, but that data is subject to change. The Wednesday group gathers at 9:15, following the School Mass.
The Thursday Senior “Mostly Men” group will meet September 11 at 9 am in the Whittier Room to discuss and decide on a study program for the fall. All are welcome to attend—please bring ideas. If you are interested in, or have questions about the Thursday study, please email Michael Scanlon at
[email protected].
The Friday group will reconvene on September 20 after the morning Mass in the Whittier Room to study “The Psalms”, another study from Ascension.
