A couple of weeks ago, Fr. Andrew celebrated the funeral of Betsy. In sharing stories the friends of Betsy heard about something she did as part of her everyday life. Betsy decorated a shoe box. She loved glitter and color. Within the box she kept items to hand to the hungry people she met on street corners– things like protein or granola bars, raisins, water, cans with tabs to open, and other items with some nutritional value.
The school and religious education families have provided some of these items and some of you have contributed shoe boxes. Next week we will have available various sizes of boxes and bags for you to choose and place in your car to feed the hungry. Hopefully this will reignite in you the Corporal Work of Mercy-Feed the Hungry. Look into the eye of the stranger, hand him or her an item or two from your box/bag, and offer to say a prayer for that particular person.
After you exhaust the items, we hope you will want to refill the box and continue your work of mercy. Oh, I forgot, decorate your box if you wish. Take a picture. Send it to Fr. Andrew. You know he loves pictures! Check out the
