Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel from St. Matthew, Jesus declares to His disciples, No one can serve two masters ... You cannot serve God and mammon. “Mammon” refers to money, wealth, or property. Wealth is not bad when we acknowledge it as God-given and, in gratitude, share it with our parish, archdiocesan institutions, and those in need. These acts of stewardship help build the kingdom of God. The prophet Isaiah and Jesus, in the Gospel, teach us to trust in God for all of our needs. Christian stewards know that a personal relationship with Christ as His disciples — not status, power, and material possessions — leads to joy and eternal happiness. To encounter Christ and deepen your relationship in Him, participate in Alpha, ChristLife, or another evangelization process offered in your parish or vicariate.
